Frequently Asked Questions

How often do teeth cleanings need to be done?

Patients should be seen by our dentist every 6 month months. Quality of at home dental care such as flossing and brushing and overall dental health can either increase or decrease the length of time between appointments with the dentist. Patients with very good home care can maintain their health within a 6 month period. Patients with unhealthy gums and/or periodontal disease will need to be seen more frequently.

Why should I get dentures?

Dentures replace the support in your face, once created by your natural teeth, to help keep your facial appearance and prevent you from looking older. The loss of teeth also means oral bone structure will begin to perish.

Are professional dental cleanings necessary?

Yes! Professional cleanings are necessary to achieve and maintain healthy teeth, gum tissue, and your overall health. You should be seen on a regular basis for examination and any necessary treatment. Professional exams and cleanings are needed to determine if any tooth disease and/or decay is present. Your dentist will also do an oral cancer exam.

Is teeth whitening from your office more effective than over-the-counter options?

Absolutely. Professional products at our office have professional-grade strength that over-the-counter teeth whitening products do not have. We have different teeth whitening options depending on what you’re looking to achieve. Teeth whitening systems are designed specifically for each patient. Once your teeth whitening is completed by the dentist, you will have a product to help you maintain your bright smile.

How long do dental crowns last?

Nothing lasts forever however, todays crowns which are made of Zirconia are a very strong, tooth-colored material that is made by a dental lab. A crown’s longevity depends on each patient’s home dental care. If you take care of your teeth and have good oral health, crowns should last. Another option is a full gold crown which is not as aesthetically pleasing but very strong and durable. Each patient’s situation will dictate the crown that is best for them.

What is the benefit of white or tooth-colored fillings?

The benefits are white or tooth-colored fillings are:

  • Aesthetically pleasing
  • No silver
  • Non-toxic
  • Do not expand and cause the tooth to crack
